The success of Missouri's Historic Tax Credit program is known throughout the nation. Other states have sought to replicate this legislation because they have seen the positive results it has produced in both major cities and small towns throughout the state. Communities benefit from Historic Tax Credits irrespective of party affiliation. This program has made it possible for countless historic structures to be saved and productively reused, while enabling the surrounding community to build even greater revitalization from those successes. Congressman Carnahan's proposed amendment to the Federal Historic Tax Credit Program would enable residents who occupy qualifying historic structures to pursue this credit for those properties, which is not possible under the current law. With more homeowners and qualifying structures able to benefit from the Federal Credit, a new surge in historic renovations would occur.
